Tuesday, March 30th - In class and homework

We continued chapter 27 work today - we used the computers to go through the 1st Campbell activity. Then we downloaded (or opened) the chapter 27 powerpoint from the link at the right (Costabiology) and studied slides 1-6 and 11 - 15 (there is a note handout that was given out in class). Finally, we took a "Test Your Knowledge" formative assessment from the handout in class. The homework is to finish any work not completed in class.

Monday 3/29/10 - In Class and Homework

Welcome back from spring break. After a brief overview of the next few weeks, we began a study guide for the important aspects of Chapter 27 (Prokaryotes). The homework is to complete the packet

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010 In Class and Homework

We spent the 1st half of the period continuing to go through the Chapter 24 Powerpoint, emphasizing specific reproductive barriers, allopatric and sympatric speciation and the terms "adaptive radiation" and "punctuated equilibrium". We spent the last 20+ minutes beginning to take a formative assessment covering the past three chapters. The homework is to finish this assessment, anf check the answers (above)' as well as continue to study for Thursday's Test (Chapters 22 - 24).

Monday 3/15/10 - In Class and Homework

We used the computers in class today to view an animation (an overview of macroevolution) and to complete an investigation (how new species arise due to genetic isolation) on the Campbell site - Chapter 24. We spent the last 10 - 15 minutes going through the ch 24 powerpoint and beginning to take notes on pre and post zygotic reproductive barriers. The homework is to begin studying for the Test Thursday - covering material from Chapters 22 - 24.

Friday, March 12th - In class and Homework

(Substitute Teacher today). Students worked on describing/explaining objectives related to chapter 24. The homework was to finish this activity.

Thursday, March 11th, 2010 - In class and homework

For those who completed it, we turned in the Population Genetics Lab (otherwise there will be a Help session early Monday). We spent the period going over the chapter 23 study guide. The homework is to read the 1st 5 pages of chapter 24.

Wednesday ,March 10th 2010 - In Class and Homework

We continued with the data gathering portion of our populations genetics lab. We finished part 1 and also completed parts 2 and 3. We put the results on the board and spent the rest of the (shortened) period working on the questions and problems. The completed lab is due tomorrow.

Tuesday, March 9, 2010

Tuesday, March 9th - In class and homework

We handed in our bead population genetics lab (if not turned in yesterday). We started the "Population Genetics and Evolution" Lab (AP Lab 8) - including the PTC paper and the Hardy Weinberg equilibrium case (with the "A" cards). The homework is to complete the chaptet 23 study guide.

Monday 3/08/10 - In Class and Homework

(Note - periods were shortened to 27 minutes due to OGT's) We continued to work on our population genetics lab (we gathered our data Friday). The homework is to complete the remainder of the lab

Friday, March 5, 2010

Friday, March 5th 2010 In class and Homework

We began a population lab comparing the environmental component and allele frequencies (we used beads, and a die for this). The homework is to read section 23.4 and to complete the Interactive questions (from our study guide) 23.1 - 23.4

Thursday, March 4, 2010

Thursday, March 4th, 2010 - In class and homework

We solved 4 Hardy Weinberg problems in class today. The answers are to the right. The homework is to read the next 2 sections (23.2 and 23.3).

Wednesday ,March 3rd 2010 - In Class and Homework

We spent the period looking at the chapter 22 power point and going over the information related to the Chapter 22 objectives. We then introduced Chapter 23 - Population Genetics - with the 1st few slides of the chapter 23 power point. We also received the chapter 23 objectives. We introduced the concept of Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. The homework is to read 23.1

Tuesday, March 2nd - In class and homework

We used the computers to complete an online investigation from the Campbell site (How do environmental changes affect a population?). Students observed changes in a population based on environmental changes (and filled out tables and graphs as well as answering some questions). In the remaining time, students could play the Darwin game (Who wants to live a million years?) by using the link on the right margin. The homework is to finish reading chapter 22.

Monday, March 1, 2010

Monday 3/01/10 - In Class and Homework

The chapter 22 Objectives were handed out today. Most of the objectives had room to write supporting information helping explain or describe Darwin's work or his influences. Students had time to work on the objectives. The video was continued during the last 15 minutes. The homework is to read 22.3

Friday, February 26th 2010 In class and Homework

Quiz on chapter 20 Bio techniques. We spent the last 15 -20 minutes watching the video "Darwin's Dangerous Idea" from the PBS Evolution Series. The homework is to read the 1st 2 sections of chapter 22.
